About Idaho® Potatoes

The Idaho Potato Commission is a state agency with many responsibilities, including the promotion of Idaho® potatoes. The Commission is funded by a tax levied on all Idaho-grown potatoes. It is currently set at 12.5 cents for every 100 pounds of potatoes. The funds generated from this tax are used to advertise, promote and do research to expand the markets for Idaho-grown potatoes.

The commission is directed by nine commissioners, five of whom are potato growers, two are packers/shippers, and two represent processors. In 2012, the Idaho Potato Commission celebrated 75 years of service.

Established in 1937, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) is a state agency that is responsible for promoting and protecting the famous "Grown in Idaho®" seal, a federally registered trademark that assures consumers they are purchasing genuine, top-quality Idaho® potatoes. Idaho's ideal growing conditions, including rich, volcanic soil, climate and irrigation, differentiate Idaho® potatoes from potatoes grown in other states.
